More time in the studio

Went to the studio this morning and my lamp had melted onto my lightbulb and the whole thing died on me. It was terrifying because what if it had caught fire??? Don’t want to think about it. Lesson learned AND I need a new lamp.

New Years

I did nothing for New Years.

I’ve been very busy even though I haven’t been posting.

WordPress is very difficult to navigate. I made a page specifically for my art, but uploading art there and on my blog seems rather tedious and makes me avoid doing it. So I’m just going to use my blog as my “portfolio” and people will just have to deal with it. Not that it’s a burden.

All of these were done yesterday or last week.

My resolutions for this year, the list, is minimal. Stop biting my lip, sit up straight, and some other things.

Really busy — update

I have been really busy, unfortunately not with art. The show was cancelled but rescheduled for the 21st of January because of COVID. I am okay with that, I understand.

I miss doing my art right now. I still won’t have time this weekend. Next weekend I’ll be able to get back into the swing of things, but for now, I’ll have to wait.

Second art show

I was juried and accepted for the art show. So that is good. I will need to drop off my picture between the 23-27. I need some acrylic white paint though because I need to paint the sides and oil takes way too long to dry.

In other news, I’ve been reading up on how to get into a gallery, and there is definitely an “art” to it. No pun intended. It won’t be for a while since I will need to get my art around and in the general public’s eye before I approach anyone.

And lastly, I found this amazing website with loads of tips and valuable information and I’ve been just poring over it. I’ve also created a business plan (quote detailed and goal-oriented) about the future and what I want for this side business.

Inspiration

I’ve been thinking and I recall in school how we were encouraged in different ways to crate art and I think I will follow some of their advice now. For the time being. It’s not hard to be inspired when it’s all around you.

The weather and painting

I’ve found my style. I’m very happy. A lot of hard work, tears and frustration went into it. It is bliss to have finally found it. I know it evolves and my art (to me), still seems amateurish, but it’s just the beginning.

It seems as though fall and winter are dualing it out. One day it’s 20 degrees and the next, it’s -1 to -5. This doesn’t have much affect on my art…yet. I’m sure that when it gets snowy and cold, I’ll likely want to stay indoors. Anyway, I am still inspired by some of my favourite artists and that is what keeps me doing art at the moment.

I’ve changed and this is the one I am submitting for the show. I tore the other one while trying to get it off what I laid it down to dry on. It’s fixable but I like this one too. Plus I don’t have to worry about cutting and framing it.

Preparing for the show

I will be moving my paintings to the house to prepare them. I have zero room in my studio. I am really excited but I’m not sure if I should bring two pieces to have them decide or just one? Maybe I’ll just bring the one I know for sure that I want to submit. It’s going to be a small headache mainly because I need to take the car and driving there will be a pain because there is so much construction everywhere. There is a saying, in our city it’s either construction season or winter 😂 So true.

This is the piece I want to submit, though I’ve posted elsewhere about it.

I feel that I’ve really come a long way from when I first got back into painting. That’s all you should compare yourself with…I have goals and aspirations though, so kind of a conflict there of what you are told.

Too much time between painting sessions

I think…but I’m not sure that I have too much time between painting sessions in order to progress at the rate I want to. I guess the only solution right now is to either A) spend more time in the studio after work (😬), or spend an hour more while there on the weekends. More plausible for the second idea. I want to improve faster than I am…although honestly, I am progressing at a pretty good speed IMO. Not an amateur anymore. Huzzah.

I’m always paranoid I’m going to post the same picture twice lol.

Inspiration

Sometimes, well, most of the time, I am unsure as to what inspires me. I am inspired a lot by other people’s work actually. I used to be inspired by nature but it’s taken a turn. I think mostly because I’ve moved from abstracting things, to abstracting for the sake of it. As in, inspired by the mediums, or the way other people have used the mediums.

It snowed at my mother’s house yesterday

I am so enraptured by the snow. I love it so much.

I can’t wait for it to snow here, though we tend to mostly get ice and very dry weather. It’s still pretty. I like how all the lights down the street are lit up. It becomes quite festive very fast. I like savouring the days until Christmas approaches. Everyone is getting their Christmas decorations out and I can’t necessarily blame them as I like Christmas just as much, but again, just a little more wait time in between would be nice.
